Our Big Blue Test, a diabetes awareness program, just received recognition as the work of a top "social media-savvy nonprofit using the Web creatively to make a difference in healthcare." At least that's the write-up by MedCityNews, the leading site covering the business of healthcare and life science innovation for health industry decision makers.

Aimed at people with diabetes, the Big Blue Test changes lives with a quick 14-minute test that shows the impact of exercise. Each entry on BigBlueTest.org results in a donation to bring life-saving supplies and education to people in need who have diabetes. Since the program started, donations have helped over 10,000 people.

Our goal in 2012 is to get 20,000 Big Blue Test results logged online by the end of World Diabetes Day on November 14th. If the goal is reached, the program sponsor (Roche Diabetes Care), will donate $100,000 that will fund grants to nonprofit organizations that serve thousands of people in need who have diabetes.

The Big Blue test had over 10,000 participants in 2010 and 2011, while helping more than 10,000 others, and nearly 200,000 people have watched Big Blue Test promotional videos such as the one below. Test results show an average 20% reduction in blood sugar after 14 minutes of exercise.

How do you do the Big Blue Test?

  1. Test your blood sugar,
  2. Get active for 14 minutes,
  3. Test blood sugar again, and post your results at BigBlueTest.org or using the Big Blue Test iPhone app,
  4. A $5 donation is made to a humanitarian diabetes nonprofit, for each entry.

You don’t have diabetes? No problem! Just get active for 14 minutes and post your results at Big BlueTest.org.

We are honored to be recognized by MedCityMedia for our social media campaign that results in better health and donations to help those in need. With the Big Blue Test we help ourselves by getting active, and we also help get life-saving diabetes supplies, treatments, and patient education to thousands of people who really need them.

In 2012, five US-based nonprofits will each receive $10,000 each in Big Blue Test grant funding for life-saving supplies and education. An additional $50,000 will go to projects in Haiti, Dominican Republic and Ecuador. These will be fully funded if the goal of 20,000 results logged online at BigBlueTest.org is reached.
