We're Hiring an Engagement Editor!

The Center for Health Journalism at the University of Southern California seeks an engagement editor who can advance the work of our California media partners, furthering public knowledge, storytelling, engagement and connection around community health and health policy issues in diverse communities.

This is a full-time, grant-funded position based at USC's dynamic main campus near downtown Los Angeles.

In addition to exceptional career opportunities, our employees enjoy excellent benefits and perks

The engagement editor will plan and develop strategies to spur community participation in storytelling, prompt dialogue among stakeholders and decision makers and ultimately create community impacts and story resonance through crowdsourcing, participatory journalism, community events, social media and digital and print strategies.

He/she  will partner with California journalists, their newsrooms and community leaders to advance policy conversations stemming from journalism produced under the auspices of the Center’s California-based journalism initiatives, including our California Fellowship, our California Data Fellowship and our reporting collaboratives.

Activities include: building strategic community partnerships; leading efforts that highlight discussions and debates on important community issues; and connecting content with creative ways to spur community interaction through events and virtually. The ideal candidate should be independent and enterprising, possess expertise and professional experience in newsroom engagement strategies, social media, marketing and events planning. He/she should be adept at collaborating with newsroom partners and community players and have demonstrated skills in bringing together diverse constituencies and in measuring the impacts of these efforts.
