George Lemp is director of the University of California's HIV/AIDS Research Program, or UARP, a program created in 1983 by the state Legislature to provide funding for AIDS-related research at nonprofit institutions in California. UARP supports research in basic clinical, social/behavioral and epidemiologic sciences through research awards, special initiatives and collaborative agreements with the State Office of AIDS.
