Biography

Dr. Benjamin is a physician with over 20 years of experience in public policy development, management of health systems and clinical care. He is the former secretary of the Maryland Department of Health & Mental Hygiene, former health commissioner (acting) and director of emergency medical services for the District of Columbia, former chief of emergency medicine at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center. He graduated from the Illinois Institute of Technology and the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He is a fellow of the American College of Physicians and a member of the Institute of Medicine of the National Academy of Sciences.
