Alan Katz

Health Care Reform

Alan Katz is author of the Alan Katz Health Care Reform blog, (www.AlanKatz.WordPress.com), which, among other distinctions, was selected by the Sacramento Bee’s CapitolAlert web site for its “collection of the top blogs covering California politics” and named by LexisNexis one of the “Top 50 Blogs for Insurance.” He has testified before Congress and state legislatures concerning health care reform. A frequent speaker and writer on the topic, Alan has also provided expert commentary on reform for both industry and general publications and broadcasts.

Alan is past president of both the National and the California Associations of Health Underwriters (the nation’s largest organization for health insurance brokers and related professionals). A licensed health insurance broker since 1983, Alan founded several companies (both online and brick-and-motor) related to health insurance distribution. In addition, Alan was a senior vice president at WellPoint, Inc., the nation’s largest insurer, leading the company’s individual and small group sales organization. Before entering the health insurance industry Alan was an investigating attorney with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission.

Alan has a long history in public service. In addition to assuming leadership roles in a number of community organizations, he served as Chief of Staff to California Lieutenant Governor Leo McCarthy, as a member of the Santa Monica City Council and has worked on numerous political campaigns.

His consulting firm, the Alan Katz Group, specializes in providing sales development and business strategy support to health insurance enterprises both large and small.
