I am a bilingual reporter and writer with a nuanced awareness of the socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds of Hispanics in the U.S. As a staff writer for American Heart Association News, I wrote about health disparities among U.S. ethnic and racial groups, with a focus on heart disease and stroke and chronic conditions that may cause them.

My reporting experience includes writing for U.S. and international media. My have stories ranged from local crime to the aftermath of an earthquake.

Before returning to reporting, I was an interpreter and translator working in state and federal courts. In the day-to-day of that work, I conveyed messages for people in stressful and difficult situations: angry couples battling each other in divorce; drug dealers staring down a long prison sentence; parents fighting to rescue a drug-addicted child.
