Michelle Valles is an award-winning broadcast journalist who recently joined the NBC LA news team as an anchor and reporter. Her diverse broadcast career began in her hometown of El Paso, Texas and continued in Austin at KXAN-NBC affiliate as the Evening News Anchor where her reporting included breaking news coverage on Hurricanes Katrina and Rita, the death and legacy of Lady Bird Johnson, and exclusive controversial reports with Willie Nelson tackling marijuana usage and decriminalization in America which lead to Texas AP, Best Anchor in 2007. Her international reporting with KTSM, (NBC affiliate) in El Paso and Juarez delved into the issues unique to the US/Mexico border giving viewers an exclusive look into the operation of a Mexican federal prison, notorious Juarez murder cases, Mexican orphanage conditions, and breaking news reports on US-Mexico border protests, drug busts, Ft. Bliss war deployments and 9-11. She also helped launch Austin's first-ever award-winning lifestyle show as the co-host and writer of Austin Live. A fast-paced, hour long demonstrative show featuring entertainment and interviews with high profiled actors, musicians and authors which resulted as a flagship show for 20 Nexstar stations. She also can been seen in the award winning HBO documentary series, "Habla Texas" in which she gives us a raw and intimate perspective and controversy she encountered when saying "hasta maƱana" at the end of her newscasts. An example of the ongoing adaptation, integration and assimilation that exists in America today when it comes to language. Michelle is passionate about community service as well as eradicating stigmas surrounding mental illness . She proudly co-hosted the MDA Jerry Lewis telethon from 1999-2009 and is proud to call Los Angeles her new home!
